Did you know that making your own nut milk without additives is actually crazy easy? Not to mention, absolutely delicious. Honestly, I didn’t…until yesterday.
Any mom with young kids knows that nap times are sacred. Naptimes are saved for recharging or crossing things off the to do list. I confess I am a bit stingy about giving away my “nap time slot” of the day because it’s the only time of the day I get to recharge.
That said, Wednesday nap times are my Anna time. My sweet friend has started coming over and it’s seriously one of the very best ways I’ve used this time. We chat mostly about cooking, Gilmore Girls, college (she’s leaving me this August for college!) and bake together. She’s crazy talented at cooking and creating amazing things.
Anna came bringing a gift yesterday. She brought homemade hazelnut milk. Have you ever had it? It’s super creamy and rich. We put in in our espresso with coconut sugar and oh my goodness. It was everything a hazelnut latte should be. I’ve bought several hazelnut creamers and every time I use them they just taste like chemicals and give me a headache. Not this! It’s only made from hazelnuts and water!
Anna says it works great with almonds and macadamia nuts. She reports that it’s delicious with cereal. She also recommends using this reusable Nut Milk Bag.
- 1 cup of raw hazelnuts (or any kind or raw nuts except peanuts)
- 4 cups of water
- Soak nuts in water for 12 hours or overnight.
- Strain and rinse nuts
- Put nuts and 4 cups of water in blender and blend on high for 3-5 minutes.
- Strain blended mixture though nut milk bag; pour into jars and refrigerate.
- Drink within 2 days.
