Navigating food allergies can be really tough. It doesn’t help that places you would never think have food allergens. I’ve been gluten-free for over six years (with one break that didn’t go well) and thankfully that’s gotten pretty easy. I’ve found that having a soy allergy is slightly more complicated since soybean oil is so incredibly cheap (meaning companies opt to use it to cut costs) and it’s plant based so companies that want to be vegan or earth friendly pick soy beans.

Read Your Labels
While it’s pretty obvious that you just need to read labels, it’s easy to forget. When an item usually doesn’t have a food allergen, I get comfortable and sometimes forget to read the label. Just yesterday I noticed that “soybean oil” was in my Dove shampoo. I was shocked! Always glance at the label and if you are unsure e-mail the company.
